Jared wanted to have the artwork be a sudden reveal after a walk through Sutro Baths. I had to place the artwork just right so that it would be hidden for as long as possible, so that when Angela stepped to the determined spot on the ledge the message would be suddenly visible. Jared wanted a scene of whimsical flowers framing the message (which I had to place way down at the bottom so as to remain out of sight). Everything worked out absolutely perfectly!

Ryan and Katie are a super sweet couple. Its exciting to be in the presence of a moment as positive and powerful as this- when the expression of one's feelings are a declaration to all and the story of the couple takes a new turn.

Randomly, a crew from a local news station was there to do a short segment on the weather. It turned into a segment on us and an interview with the couple- fun! The segments can be seen here and here and are very cute.

This timelapse shows Ryan and Katie walking up and talking with me while I was working. To create suspense and add a red herring, I said I was doing the artwork as a surprise for someone. I suggested they go above to check it out. As they walked the trail to the overlook, I wrote the words, and when they got into position and could see, I wrote in her name. Such a great reaction.

Such a warm couple! And the tide, beach and day were perfect! Such a treat to work on such a nice canvas and setting.

Paul liked the henna style and since we were doing this at my favorite beach in Santa Cruz for the artwork, I decided to play off of the features of the cove and let its expression be organic. Paul also really wanted there to be a keyboard. Below is a timelapse of its creation.

Paul expressed to me the value of prioritizing experiences over things. I appreciate that. In the end things are opportunities for experiences, and reminders of experiences. Which means, in the end, that its all about the experience :-)
Renee was very clear about the role of the artwork in her proposal. Out of a desire for it to be as good as it could be, she waited until a period of time during which I felt confident that the beach would be in prime condition for us.

Renee also chose to have only the word 'Believe' in the image, making her proposal verbally from the ground once her sweetheart had ascended to the overlook. They are a lesbian couple and the word was one that had deep meaning in their relationship.

Barry came out all the way from Atlanta to specifically work with me. I guided him towards doing the artwork in the lovely town of Stinson where he rented a house near the beach. Our plan was for them to do a leisurely sunset walk along the shore.

Working with him, we came to the phrase "Jessica, will you be my light?", a reference to a favorite quote from a Harry Potter film, of which she was a big fan. For the design, Barry indicated the style he liked most and gave me reign to surprise him.

We had planned that I would have written 'be my light' in such a manner that it would seem to be part of the artwork. And then once there I would write the other words. However, they arrived at the scene before I had written the words. My lovely assistant, Ember, guided them to the lookout to have a better view. I had just finished the design and so got right to work on the lettering. I wrote it backwards, ending with 'J'. Apparently her attention had been diverted until the last moment, so she didn't realize exactly what was happening until the scene was complete! At which point...well, she said 'Yes!" :-)

Here they are at the center of the flower.
D contacted me to coordinate a proposal during the travels he and his sweetheart would be on through the states. Among his desires were privacy and someplace close to where they were staying. This artwork was done on a secluded section of Stinson Beach, north of San Francisco. Since it was going to happen in the early morning (to follow the low tide), I recommended they stay the previous night in the charming seaside town and then take a beach stroll the next day. The design is based on a tattoo that she wears. They can be seen as small dots on the rocks in the upper center of the frame where they enjoyed champagne that he had brought. The photo was taken with the aerial camera system.
Daniel wanted to do something that felt connected to the beach location. He mentioned that Autumn loved turtles and so we went for an over-sized hatching turtle scene filled in with seaweed. As the low tide was in the late afternoon, I suggested they rent bikes and take the lovely and scenic ride along the waterfront road.

A testimonial from Daniel:
I recently hired him to sculpt a proposal message to my sweetheart on a beach in Santa Cruz, CA. He worked with me to develop the design, one that was based on my fiance’s interests. He was painstaking about making sure all the elements were appropriate, including checking beach conditions many times to ensure that the location I wanted would be possible on the day of the event. He even helped with the logistics of creating a natural ‘arrival’ to the artwork by highly recommending we bike to the location. The day could not have worked out better. On top of the beautiful weather on the day he chose, any nerves I had about timing of tides and the arrival were at ease knowing that Andres was so detailed in his planning and preparation. Andres helped me through the process of creating a wonderful experience my fiance and I will remember all our lives. From the start Andres was a pleasure to work with and I felt the passion he has for his craft and after all was said and done I can say his talent for creating memories and artwork is amazing. I recommend Andres to everyone wanting professional art services.

Under the guise of a family outing to create art with me, we were able to bring together members of both their families. I created a design template that everyone worked with to make the image. When we were just about finished I told Blake and Ania to walk to the overlook to see it from above. As they walked up I quickly wrote in the words 'will you marry me?' in Polish (her ethnicity) plus a design of their interlocking initials. She was, of course, taken completely by surprise!

I love that we were able to create an experience for the whole family, not only as wonderful way for them to spend time together, but also as a symbolic gesture of the support Blake and Ania have in their new life together.

Here is a testimonial from Ania:
My fiance hired Andres to create an artwork on the beach as a marriage proposal. Andres worked closely with my fiance to create a design that would be very meaningful and special to me, and together they crafted a plan to involve members of my family in creating the art. Andres guided us in the process and when he indicated it was finished, we walked to the overlook to view the scene. As we walked up, Andres quickly wrote in the proposal message. My fiance dropped to his knee and proposed, with the incredible artwork below us on the beach. My family and I enjoyed an incredible day at the beach creating art together and I was given the most amazing proposal I could have ever imagined. Andres is a very talented and his work is extraordinary. But also, he is a joy to be around and his presence truly added to experience. He was professional and organized and thoughtful. He was also exceptional with the kids in the group. I absolutely recommend Andres as a highly capable and professional artist. He took such effort and care into making the day special for us all and exceeded every expectation.
The idea was that we were going to include the couple in the making of the design, as though i was needing their assistance with my own artwork. However, the couple arrived later than anticipated (nothing ever quite works according to script!). I recommended that they take a stroll around the design (so that I could take photos of them within it). It was a bit comical trying to communicate without letting on that Ryan and I were in cahoots. I finally suggested that they go up to see the finished creation and quickly wrote in the words as they ascended to the overlook. Another brilliant success!
